Treatment of Vaginismus

Vaginismus is the spasm of the vaginal muscles which makes having sex or examinations such as smear very painful and virtually impossible. You will be consulted by a female Consultant Gynaecologist. In most cases an examination is not possible unless the woman is sedated. A thorough examination will be undertaken when the patient is sedated and Botulinum Toxin will be injected in the areas of muscle spasm in the vagina to relax these muscles. After that the patient is required to use dilators regularly as instructed by the doctor (these are provided at the consultation). The use of Botulinum toxin with the use of dilators has been shown to cure vaginismus for the majority of women.

Removals

We offer discrete and pain-free removal of skin tags, vaginal lesions and cysts – as these can be carried out under local anaesthetic or sedation.

Marsupialization of Bartholin’s cyst or abscess – this can be performed under local anaesthetic or sedation.

Treatment of genital warts – this is performed using CO2 laser, which is an extremely effective treatment.
